Latifah Bumaye was arrested at her hideout at Kejewu Bator Thursday July 30.
The Salaga Divisional Police Headquarters has arrested Latifah Bumaye, 33, in Kejewu Bator a fishing community under the Abrumase Police Station within the Salaga Division in the Savanah region.
In a viral video, Latifah is captured whipping the late Akua Denteh, 90, in broad day while chanting and cheering herself and onlookers on after the deceased was branded a witch by a self-styled soothsayer, Filin who was also captured hitting the head of the victim with an object in Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality.
In a police report made available to ZAMI Reports by the Salaga Divisional Police Commander C/Supt. Amos Yelisong, the Division reveals the suspect who has been on the run since Thursday July 23 was arrested at her hide out at about 09:30pm on Thursday July 30 following intelligence.
“On 30/07/2020 information was received, by C/Supt. Amos Yelisong, the Divisional Commander, Salaga indicating the hidden place of one of the suspected Principal murderers in the deceased Akua Denteh case”.
“The information was processed into intelligence and two Man Police team from the Salaga Division despatched by the Divisional Commander and the District Officer to Kejewu Bator, a fishing community under Abrumase Police Station within the Salaga Division”, the report further stated.
The two “man team” who arrested the suspect escorted her from Kejewu Bator through Yeji to the Salaga Divisional Command for investigations.
“The suspect is identified as the one who was torturing the deceased in the viral video which led to the death of the deceased”, C/Sup Amos Yelisong told ZAMI Reports.
Some five persons suspected to be among those who invited the soothsayer into the Kafaba community to identify witches and perform the rites of exorcism were on Thursday July 30 arrested by the police in Salaga.
The five who were transferred to the Savannah Regional Police Headquarters according to C/Sup Amos Yelisong were put before the Magistrate Court in the Bole district “have been remanded to reappear on August 20 2020”.
Meanwhile, the chief of Kafaba Seidu Yahaya who was also arrested on Tuesday July 28 by the Savannah Regional Police Command in Damongo in the West Gonja Municipality to assist in investigations has been granted bail.
