The Coalition of National Zongo Political Groupings has expressed appreciation in advance to Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for giving thoughtful consideration to its humanitarian appeal for a Presidential Pardon and Amnesty for Mr. Muniru Fuseini, who has spent years in incarceration.
According to the Coalition, the appeal is founded on the principles of justice, compassion, and the rule of law. The organisation believes that the Vice President's commitment to fairness and social justice offers hope to many vulnerable Ghanaians seeking redress.
Speaking on behalf of the Coalition, National Chairman Yahaya Alhassan described Muniru Fuseini as a respected member of the Zongo community whose honesty and integrity have earned him admiration across religious and political divides.
The Coalition maintains that Muniru became a victim of circumstance following an incident involving a mobile phone he innocently purchased, resulting in what it describes as a wrongful imprisonment. It notes that during his years at Nsawam Prison, he has endured significant emotional and personal hardship.
The organisation also recalled the painful loss of Muniru's mother, who passed away while her son remained in prison, a tragedy the Coalition says deepened the suffering of the family.
The Coalition has therefore appealed to the Vice President to support efforts toward a review of Muniru's case and to facilitate consideration of a Presidential Pardon in accordance with Ghana's constitutional and legal processes.
"This is a humanitarian appeal grounded in justice, compassion, and respect for the rule of law," Mr. Alhassan stated. "We believe these are values that Your Excellency has consistently demonstrated throughout your public service."
The Coalition further explained that the appeal forms part of a broader initiative to advocate for individuals who may have suffered miscarriages of justice and to assist vulnerable prisoners, including those unable to secure their release because they cannot afford to pay minor court-imposed fines.
Expressing optimism, the Coalition said it appreciates the Vice President's willingness to consider matters affecting ordinary citizens and remains hopeful that Muniru Fuseini's case will receive the attention it deserves through the appropriate constitutional procedures.
The organisation concluded by reaffirming its commitment to peaceful advocacy and thanked the Vice President for her continued dedication to justice, inclusion, and national unity
